Introduction to Font 5.1
A Font 5.1 switch is an invitation to calm, to contemplation. Flipping a Font 5.1 switch is a liturgical ritual that initiates a function and produces a sense of well-being.
I don’t know if its creators, Oriol Guimerà and Joan Cinca, designed this line of mechanisms to provoke these sensations, but without a doubt, they do.
Everything starts from a parallelogram (4 straight lines and four tiny curves at their vertices), pure lines superbly proportioned with their thickness to achieve a discreet element, but protagonist. A tiny oblong indentation contains a small hand. The sublime touch and the “clack” of operation culminate a piece of excellent workmanship and very high aesthetic value.
As it could not be otherwise, the product is made in an artisanal way, adopting the latest technologies for its operation and using finely finished noble materials .
Thus, the plates are made of aluminum, stainless steel, iron, brass and Corian®. The finishes of the plates can be lacquered, brushed, worn, brulé, patinané, marartelé, gold, chrome, matt, glossy, etc… and the hands in black, white, copper, gold, skate, chrome and nickel. All this allows for enormous customization possibilities.
The dimensions start from a square of 90×90 mm., becoming rectangles of the same height and 162 mm, 234 mm. and 305 mm. for mechanisms of 2, 3 or 4 actions. The thickness of the above-ground plate of the gearbox is just 6 mm.

Font 5.1 is a series of electrical mechanisms published by Font Barcelona. They are designed to provide architecture and interior design with a new, finely developed tool for integration into leading design projects.
The use of actuation hands gives an outstanding technological image to this type of mechanism. Its feel, its sound and its range of finishes convey a very high level of quality and safety in each operation.
The result of a brilliant concept, Font 5.1 has been awarded the reddtot design award 2013, the Maison&Objet Paris award and the A’ Design Award & Competition 2020.

There are many electrical mechanisms, many of them from world-renowned firms. This is not the case. This is the icing on the cake, the product that will differentiate an exclusive project from the rest. An exercise in design and an added value of infinite beauty and sobriety.
You will never forget the touch and sound of the Font 5.1 mechanism. Never has such an everyday and repetitive action become an extraordinary liturgical act.
