Bose Corporation is an American multimedia company founded in 1964 by former Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Amar G. Bose. The company manufactures HiFi components such as speakers and amplifiers, although it is primarily known for its complete audio solutions such as home theater systems.

The company’s headquarters are located in Framingham, Massachusetts (USA). Bose is a privately held company with more than 9,000 employees in 2007. Amar Bose was the company’s chairman and major shareholder until one day, when Bose donated the majority of the shares to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2011. This makes the institution the main shareholder of the company, therefore, it receives annual dividends to continue the research and education of its students.

Among the clauses of the contract with the MIT is that the University cannot participate in the administration of the company and that they cannot sell their shares. Apart from that the company will remain as a private company and will be independent.

The company excels in the development of loudspeakers, the so-called psycho-acoustic aspect of the products. To do this, they use a number of unconventional concepts, such as the use of chassis in wideband loudspeakers in conjunction with Subwoofer of small volume, which they call systems “Acoustimass” or the use of sound components of Indirect radiation and integration of electronic equalizers to compensate for frequency jumps.

The use of indirect radiation sound components is done with the purpose of reproducing musical instruments in a more real way, as happens for example in a concert hall where most of the sound that reaches the audience is indirect (via ceiling and walls).

Bose carries out other production lines, including: Automotive audio. Noise-cancelling headphones. Isolation systems for truck seats. Trading Systems. Home theater systems. Surround sound systems. Soundbars and everything related to the world of speakers and headphones. Without a doubt, this is the world leader in sound systems. (source: Wikipedia).
