Introduction
Lokum is the glass side table created by Sabine Marcelis for Acerbis. Matter, light and colour merge in an exercise that is as geometric as it is soft.
The material chosen was blown glass, which is not an easy craft since flat surfaces and large volumes are difficult to achieve with this type of technique. The rounded vertices and edges help shape the part and the rectangular bottom opening aids in the output of the blowing tool.
The result? Rectangular prisms, light, translucent and elegant, of different sizes. The glass colors selected for these artworks are amber and smoky gray.

Information
Description
Lokum slides us to the edge of minimalism to fall into the arms of artisanal mastery: glass blowing. And it’s no wonder, Sabine Marcelis‘ design concept goes through poetry, light and shades of color. Surely for this reason, she created soft, light and translucent shapes that led her to a play of light and shadow.
The artisanal execution of these side tables makes them authentic works of art at the service of contemporary design.
Made of blown glass, they maintain a rectangular lower opening and a non-constant thickness. Available in 2 glass colors : amber and smoky gray.
The available dimensions are: 32 x 32 x 42 cm. 45 x 32 x 32 cm. and 55 x 55 x 35 cm. (width x length x height).
Feedback
Should we consider these sophisticated shapes as pure minimalism? I don’t know, although conceptually I think so. Deep down they are rectangular prisms and, although they have rounded edges and vertices, their translucent character and discreet dimensions make them candidates for putting a play of light and shadow in a room, let’s say, minimalist.
For me, Sabine Marcelis ‘ design has a plus of poetry that is difficult to visualize in other designs. I would highlight the softness of the shapes, the cold touch of the surface and its translucent, almost transparent character. Its light imprint also helps to perceive the piece as beautiful and delicate.
When talking about side tables, we should keep Lokum in mind. Small works of art!
