Premiering the first Rotring is an unforgettable moment. It is written by someone who has used a slingshot, mustache and razor blade.

The Rotring made our task easier, came to save the subject and made us aware of the value of a pen or technical pen.

The system, of pure simplicity, is great. A round plastic tube conceals an ink tank attached to a nozzle. It has a round chrome-plated metal tube, of various diameters, with a stainless steel wire inside that dispenses a uniform flow of ink towards the tip.

The nozzle is threaded inside a garnet-colored plastic body , incorporating the ink tank inside. The tip is protected with a maroon cap with a metal clip attached to pressure. This pen is a technical instrument that provides highly accurate lines and points.

Description

Rotring Isograph is a high-precision technical pen with a refillable ink tank, with 13 line widths. Its tip is chrome-plated and wear-resistant, allowing you to work with a lot of detail.

Its body is ergonomic and its maroon color is the symbol of several generations, although its emblem is the famous red ring, origin of the word Rotring. Designed to provide perfect lines, the Rotring Isograph maintains a good weight balance, allowing you to work with it for long hours without discomfort or fatigue.

It is available in 13 line widths: 0.10 / 0.13 / 0.18 / 0.20 / 0.25 / 0.30 / 0.35 / 0.40 / 0.50 / 0.60 / 0.70 / 0.80 / 1.0 mm. Includes a refillable clear ink tank that snaps on above the nozzle. The assembly is incorporated into a garnet-colored plastic body threaded to the mouthpiece.

The tip is protected with a maroon cap with a metal clip and snap closure. The body features the characteristic red ring of the Rotring brand at its upper end. Screen printed white, vertically, the name Rotring Isograph appears. The mouthpiece, also made in maroon and features a coloured piece with the engraving of the line width (one colour per measure).

Alternative and successor to the Rapidograph series, it features as fundamental differences the nozzle and the ink tank, both redesigned for greater ease of use, refilling and cleaning.

23 ml ink bottle . Available in 5 colors: blue, white, black, red and green. High fluidity and opacity India ink, good adhesion. It is a quick-drying and waterproof ink.
Rotring Cleaning Liquid: To maintain and clean your pens when you are not going to use them for a while or when you want to change the color of the ink.

Refills

Isograph replacement tips: nozzles (with tip included) to replace worn ones or have additional line widths.

This is a true classic. A pen that revolutionized the quality and precision of line drawing and became a world reference, monopolizing the drawing boards of architecture, engineering, design and construction studios.

A drawing instrument that has served several generations with German precision and quality . It is true that, since the arrival of computer-aided design software , its use has declined very intensely. However, in didactic use it maintains its relevance in schools of art, architecture, engineering and drawing.

Some nostalgic people, like me, keep it on our desk looking for any excuse to continue using it. 🙂

Rotring was founded in Germany in 1928 with the ideas of engineer Wilheim Riepe. A manufacturer of medical instruments, he visited the United States in 1920 and saw different pens that were already in use in the country. In 1928 he designed his first fountain pen without a nib, replaced by a tubular nib. This pen became known as Tiku all over the world and 3 years later (1931) he got the first patent for this pen.

By the following year the company was exporting to 34 countries, Tiku had become a very popular instrument. In 1935, the Multipen ballpoint pen was born, in four colors with graphite leads and an ingenious rotary system. It was 1953 when Helmut Riepe (son of the founder) expanded the Tiku concept by creating the “technical pen”. Rollerpen and Tiku-Kuli were its two variants. In 1958 he would launch the second generation of technical pens: the Variant and the Varioscript, both with great success.

1961 was the year of the name change, based on the German words “roter ring” (red ring) the brand is renamed rOtring and identifies all products that carry the red ring. The 70s and 80s were his great years of success. Our protagonist was born in 1976, being added Rotring Isograph to the range of technical pens.

In 1979 Rotring launched its Tikky mechanical pencil, which has been and is a world reference in mechanical pens. In 1983 the Rapidograph stylograph set a new standard in performance thanks to its capillary cartridge. 1984 was the year of the launch of ArtPen, their calligraphy fountain pen.

In 1989 Rotring introduced the 600 model, whose hexagonal body is made from a single piece of brass, which provides enough weight so that the architect does not have to apply additional pressure on his creations. During 1997 , the second generation of the famous Tikky mechanical pencil was launched: the Tikky II

In the following years, Rotring continued to launch new products by incorporating rulers, compasses, etc. into its range of products.

In 1998 the American firm Newell Rubbermaid acquired Rotring, twinning the famous German brand with other popular brands such as Parker (pens and fountain pens), Waterman (fountain pens) and Papermate.

In 2014 it introduced its hybrid mechanical pen 800 + stylus. In the same year, the Rotring Institute was created, a training tool for the design community.

Today, although to a lesser extent than in its golden years, Rotring continues to provide excellent writing and drawing instruments, and many students have grown up with one of them in their hands.
