Madrid Book Fair, 84th edition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Every spring Madrid<\/strong> celebrates its traditional Book Fair<\/strong>, the meeting place for readers<\/strong>, authors<\/strong>, publishers<\/strong> and bookshops<\/strong>. As in most of its editions, El Retiro Park<\/strong> will be the meeting place for such a classic fair. Its almost 400 booths<\/strong> will show the main editorial novelties<\/strong> and will provide a place for signatures for prestigious writers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The motto of this edition is “New York lights up the fair”<\/strong><\/em> and, in collaboration with the New York International Book Fair <\/strong>and Ibero-American departments of several universities, it tries to highlight the value of the New York<\/strong> that speaks and writes in Spanish<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

The 1st Edition<\/strong> of the Book Fair<\/strong> was held in 1933<\/strong>, as part of the events of the Cervantes Week<\/strong>, from April 23 to 29. This first appointment was held on the Paseo de Recoletos<\/strong> in front of the Church of San Pascual<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The 1934<\/strong> Fair, called “national and Hispano-American”,<\/strong><\/em> was held on the same stage from May 6 to 16 from “ten in the morning to twelve at night”.<\/strong> Before our Civil War<\/strong>, the editions of 1935<\/strong> and 1936<\/strong> were held, and later, they had a parenthesis until 1944<\/strong>. That year, under the name of National Book Fair<\/strong>, it was organized by the National Institute of the Book (INLE).<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1967<\/strong> the Fair<\/a> was relocated to El Retiro Park <\/strong>as a result of the increase in requests for<\/strong> participation from booksellers, publishers and distributors.<\/p>\n

It would be in 1982<\/strong> when the Fair was renamed the Madrid Book Fair<\/strong>, and its organization was assumed by the Association of Bookstores of Madrid, together with the collaboration of the Association of Publishers of Madrid<\/strong> and the Association of Distributors (FANDE).<\/strong> In turn, it is inaugurated by Their Majesties. <\/strong> the King and Queen<\/strong> for the first time and, since then, every year uninterruptedly<\/strong> by one of its members.<\/p>\n

Among the distinctions that this Madrid Book Fair<\/a> has obtained throughout its history, it is worth highlighting the National Prize for the Promotion of Reading<\/strong>, awarded by the Ministry of Culture<\/strong> in 2003<\/strong>, and the Benito P\u00e9rez Gald\u00f3s International Projection Award of the City of Madrid<\/strong> granted by the Madrid City Council <\/strong>in 2009.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2025 Poster<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The poster for the 84th edition<\/strong> of the Madrid Book Fair is the work of illustrator Coni Curi<\/a> and shows a Madrid bear<\/strong> (Reference sl symbol of the city) observing the New York skyline<\/strong> with a pack of books<\/strong> on which the famous Empire State Building<\/strong> stands.<\/p>\n
