Completely <strong>modular<\/strong>, this creation by <a title=\"Joe Colombo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.joecolombo.it\/inddes_index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joe Colombo<\/a>, allows 100% storage of a <strong>rectangular prism<\/strong>. Exhibited at the <strong>MoMA<\/strong> in <strong>New York<\/strong>, at the <strong>Milan Trienale<\/strong> and <strong>Smau<\/strong> Prize in <strong>1971<\/strong>, it is an iconic piece of Italian design of the <strong>70s<\/strong>, produced by <a title=\"B-Line\" href=\"https:\/\/www.b-line.it\/en\/prodotti\/boby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">B-Line<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Their idea is based on a <strong>base with 5 wheels<\/strong> to which <strong>they stack equal but configurable modules<\/strong>. In each module we can use <strong>2 types of drawers<\/strong>: <strong>flat<\/strong> (3), <strong>deep<\/strong> (2), or <strong>without drawers<\/strong>. The ingenious drawers are <strong>pivoted on an external eccentric axis<\/strong> and are driven by <strong>external pressure<\/strong>. Other <strong>storage pockets<\/strong> (2) are on its sides. Built in <strong>1970<\/strong>, and <strong>well ahead of its time<\/strong>, it redefined <strong>the design of the time<\/strong> and changed <strong>the standards of functionality<\/strong>. <strong>Joe Colombo<\/strong> defined a <strong>masterpiece<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>The <strong>modular character<\/strong> gives a <strong>different stamp<\/strong> on its time. Intended for <strong>large production<\/strong>, <strong>Joe Colombo<\/strong> looked for a <strong>simple design<\/strong> for the <strong>Boby cart<\/strong>. The choice of <strong>ABS<\/strong> as the material (in which <strong>Joe Colombo<\/strong> had a lot of experience) was <strong>a success<\/strong>. <strong>ABS plastic<\/strong> supports <strong>any shape<\/strong>, <strong>is strong<\/strong>, <strong>lightweight<\/strong> , and allows <strong>for many colors<\/strong>.   <\/p>\n<p>The structure of the <strong>Boby trolley<\/strong> is simple: a <strong>base with 5 polypropylene wheels<\/strong> would accommodate <strong>identical but configurable modules<\/strong> of 420x430x200 mm. Each module can accommodate <strong>3 flat or<\/strong> <strong>2 deep drawers<\/strong>, or <strong>none at all<\/strong>. An <strong>eccentric metal rod<\/strong> ensures that they can be opened and closed with a <strong>very elegant external drive<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n<p>Once the modules are stacked, <strong>another 2 metal rods<\/strong> will adjust them to the base completing the assembly. For the meticulous, there is a <strong>lock option for the drawers<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>The <strong>top lid<\/strong>, with reliefs, is designed <strong>to house small objects<\/strong> or to be covered with elegant<strong> oak, walnut,<\/strong> <strong>natural cork or mocha<\/strong> tops. I have always imagined the <strong>Boby cart<\/strong> to the right of <strong>cartoonists<\/strong>, <strong>artists<\/strong> and the occasional <strong>architect<\/strong>.
